The power of adding "for now" to your commitments

Want to make your org more nimble and open to change? Try adding "for now" to your requests for agreement. "Can we agree this is the right org structure for now?" "Are we on board with this set of KPI's for now?" Why does this work?

Adding "for now"… 1) Signals that you are open to change in the future and your team doesn't have to make a call on whether this is the correct permanent solution. Decisions happen faster when people know they are reversible.

Adding "for now"… 2) Makes your team more willing to change their minds when circumstances change. Their initial commitment was for what they knew at the time. New data doesn't make them wrong, it just means it's time to change. Ego around the initial decision is removed.
